POSTERior Design Contest is a poster design competition hosted by Students In Design, the AIGA student group of Columbia College Chicago. Judges will award 4 winners in the following categories:
PARTICIPANTS Must be a college student and be able to provide a valid student email address.
SUBMISSIONS Only recent work since 2011 will be accepted. Size and dimensions are not limited, however must be in PDF format under 5mb.
Like last year, we are accepting submission both from the United States and Internationally.
Jay Ryan has been making screen-printed concert posters in Chicago since 1995 at his shop The Bird Machine. Known for his hand-drawn type, humorous animal subjects, and muted color selections, he has worked for thousands of rock bands, as well as clients like Patagonia clothing, Converse shoes, Burton Snowboards, and the BBC.
2005 saw the release of his first book, 100 Posters, 134 Squirrels, a collection of his favorite prints from the first decade of his work. Since the release of that book, he has honed his craft continuing without the use of computers, and screen-printing the work in his shop called the Bird Machine for bands such as the Melvins, the Shins, Modest Mouse, Andrew Bird, Shellac, My Morning Jacket, the Decemberists, Low, Built to Spill, Tortoise, and hundreds of others. His second book, Animals & Objects In and Out of Water, was published in 2009 by Akashic Books. When he's not playing bass in his band Dianogah, Jay lectures students and shows his prints at universities and galleries across the U.S. and Europe.
Craig's work has received recognition from One Show Design (Best of Show), The One Show, D&AD, Cannes Lions, Communication Arts, and Type Directors Club, among others. Additionally, his work has been exhibited in more than twelve countries and is included in the permanent archives of the Denver Art Museum.
His work has also been recognized by One Show Design, AIGA 365, the Applied Arts Photography & Illustration Annual, the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington's annual awards, as well as several ADDY Awards shows. Craig has judged regional, national, and international creative competitions.
Clients have included Armstrong, Auntie Anne's, Bruce, CertainTeed, Men's Health, Mohawk, The One Club, Rockport Publishing, and Society of Design.
Over the years, Rutter’s work has been published in design magazines and books such asCommunication Arts, Print, ID, STEP, and Graphis, among others. Over the past year, his posters have been exhibited in international competitions in Poland, Mexico, Japan, Hungary, China, the Slovak Republic, Bolivia and Iran. He has led design workshops, lectured, exhibited, and served as juror for many national and international design competitions. Rutter has taught undergraduate and graduate level graphic design courses at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
He is also the founder of the Chicago International Poster Bienniale.
Alex is one of seven partners in the studio/gallery/blog called The Post Family, co-founder of 5×7 publishing and a Design Director at the Leo Burnett Dept. of Design. And sometimes he likes to make illustrations at his other company, Illustration Corporation.
He also enjoys playing his guitar, riding bikes with no brakes, eating steak and looking at picture books.

I release Columbia College Chicago and its direct or indirect licensees and assignees from any claims or remuneration associated with any damage, foreseen or unforeseen, associated with the commercial or artistic use of the image(s).
